About Peter

I am a registered counsellor and an accredited social worker and supervisor.

My approach is to engage in helpful conversations with clients, to promote understanding and reflection, and provide support to impel action and change.

As a client-centred, strengths-based practitioner, I work with clients in a supportive and respectful way, to explore clients’ experiences in context, to generate new ways of seeing and being. With extensive experience working with children, adolescents and adults, and as an admitted lawyer and registered teacher, I bring a holistic approach and many years of experience to my counselling practice.

I work with individuals, couples and families in a counselling setting and also provide professional supervision to: teachers; school administrators; lawyers; public and private sector employees; social workers; occupational therapists; counsellors; and others seeking professional confidential supervision.

My experience

I taught in State schools, independent schools, and at university.

In addition to classroom teaching, I worked in curriculum development, coordination and delivery, leading and managing cultural change, and in pastoral care at all levels of education.  My success in teaching and non-teaching roles evidences my ability to engage with others to achieve desired outcomes.

My work as a lawyer and researcher also demonstrates my ability to engage with others to achieve desired outcomes in contexts where individuals react differently to stimulus and change.

My work as a hospital social worker evidences my assessment and advocacy skills and my ability to have difficult conversations with respect and sensitivity.

My education and experience is helpful, but the real success comes from my clients’ realising their strengths and enormous capacity to keep moving forward, towards their preferred future.

Counselling in Context makes meaning matter and supports clients to make change happen.

Sometimes it is about thinking differently; sometimes it’s about supporting behavioural change. Sometimes it is about deep listening and being heard.

We each deserve the respect to be met and understood on our journey.

If I can support you in taking the next step, please be in touch.
